Back for a few days

Vacation is over but we will be back up at the cottage on Wednesday. Ellie found out that the park carnival is early this year and if she wants to work a game she has to be there on Thursday and Friday to do the prep work. We will most likely head up after lunch on Wednesday and then Rob will join us after he leaves work on Friday.

Last part of the week was still hot and seemed to get steamier as the days went on. We were lucky on the rain front until Friday. The storms were all at night until then. There was incredible lightening - we stayed up one night to watch because the neighbors were not up next door and it was pitch black except for the lightening.

We went bowling and then pretty much did the beach thing in the afternoons. Nana taught Ellie the basics of knitting - I am sure they will work some more this coming week. We finished another book - almost halfway done. Rob inflated a shark ride-on for the water and the kids loved being roped together and out in the water.

We went to the park rummage sale and found new life jackets for both the kids and 2 chairs for the deck off Ellie's room (here at home). We looked for a bigger air conditioner unit - now that we have bigger windows upstairs but there were none to be had in Michigan.

We left Saturday morning to come home because the forecast didn't show the rain letting up. We did our chores - washed the sheets and made our beds, finished laundry, cleaned up all the toys and craft projects, packed the cars and were on our way. Nick drove home with me and Ellie with Rob.

We came home and discovered that the basement had water. Not too much but enough to require cleaning up. We have rubber mats all through the basement and the ones in the laundry room didn't have clear water running off of them meaning the floor drain had backed up. We bleached all the mats and the floor and set all the fans out to dry everything out. Mom and Dad got water, Jo and Ole got water - we were not alone.

We went over to Mom and Dad's and Tony was there - we had a nice visit and dinner. We came home and moved the kids mattresses up to their rooms and set them up for sleep. First night in their rooms in about a month. I could not get sleepy last night - it was 1:30AM and I still wasn't tired but decided to try to go up to bed. I tossed and turned for over an hour - I probably should have just come back down and read but I kept trying to sleep.

The kids slept wonderfully in their new beds in the their new rooms. Ellie was the first one up but Nick slept in until almost 9AM. We did some more cleaning downstairs this morning - flipping the couches so we could pull the mats under them. Ellie and I made notes from the library books we were returning and then we went to the library to see which books we could find off the booklist. We found 7 books and I reserved a few more. We went to TJ Maxx afterwards and we found a pair of king sized pillows to put between the kids mattress and the wall - there is about 6-7" of space and we don't want Nick to get wedged and Ellie to loose things. We got lunch and came home. Ellie and I were able to sit and read for a hour or so and get one of the new books read - woohoo. We started another but they eventually went outside to play.

We went over to Mom and Dad's house for dinner - we brought our newest green bean supply with - enough to make a small side dish. My garden loved the rain - I have these huge squash and zucchini plants with a bunch of flowers but no veggies yet. My tomato plants (for just being grape tomatoes) are humongous - over 4' tall. We had dinner and came home. Ellie and I read through half another book and the kids had their bath.

We got the kids to sleep and then we've been on the couch. Vacation was nice - I seriously don't recall it ever being so sticky, hot and gross up there. The picture above was from the day we left for Michigan - we thought the cloud looked like Pegasus with a rainbow running through it.

My feet have pain on and off mostly I notice it when I wake up in the morning and at night. Plum has healed nicely - I occasionally get a ping of pain but really not bad. Visualising my healthy and continually healing body and the new normal, Tree
